Tina Cross

Pop star, family entertainer, darling of the theatre and, latterly, singer-songwriter, Tina Cross has forged quite the musical career for someone who grew up wanting to be a social worker.

As a child she always sang, but mostly for fun: she would often serenade the passengers on her father’s bus as it crisscrossed south Auckland. Cross grew up in Otara from the age of four, except for a three-year stint in Kaitaia; her mother was of Maori-Croatian descent. It was while Cross and her family were in Northland that she won a talent quest, in a duet with her sister (one of her six siblings).
