Dudley Benson

Dudley Benson is an Aotearoa original. A lapsed choirboy with a singular musical vision, a well-tuned cultural consciousness, and a touch of the mischievous.

His songs, with their recurring themes of nature and nationalism, tell quintessentially New Zealand stories. In addition to his remarkable voice, his productions combine, among other things, choirs and orchestras, electronica and taonga pūoro, bagpipes and harpsichords. Each of his albums is the product of years of work, with a depth and detailing that demands – and amply rewards – repeated listening. In concert, which is more likely to be in a church, marae or community hall than a bar or club, he utilises elements of dance, theatre and visual art to offer a complete sensory experience.
